The pandemic is one of the main reasons #SaveNorCalLeagues has not posted any public updates over the past four weeks but plenty of work is being done in the background. And the #SaveNorCalLeagues movement is far from over!
But First, The League Update
Besides the obvious breaking news of a complete restructure of Leagues and a postponement of all League play until at least August 1, the other big news is that NONE of the remaining 2020 Leagues will be charging the tax.Did the Board of Directors finally come to their senses and decide not to exploit the complete restart of both, Adult 65 & Over AND the biggest league of the year, Adult 18 & Over?
Highly unlikely, given their past, greedy behavior that showed that they care about nothing but their own pockets. A more likely scenario seems to be that the Board is so out of touch with the League program that they simply didn’t realize their opportunity here.
So, moving on to #SaveNorCalLeagues updates:
#BoycottLeagues - Phase 1: Let’s Make It the Biggest Adult 18 & Over Season in History
#BoycottLeagues is still the plan, but since none of the 2020 Leagues will be charging the tax, we can send the biggest message yet to the Board: Let’s sign up as many teams and players as we can for the Adult 18 & Over season, make it the biggest league ever, play our hearts out, have a good time and enjoy the time back on the courts - and don’t sign up a single 2021 Mixed 40 & Over team or 2021 Adult 40 & Over team in Reno/Tahoe. Are you in?!#BoycottLeagues - Phase 2: A League Alternative Is Coming In 2021!
#SaveNorCalLeague is setting up an alternative League system for those teams and players who will support our movement to #BoycottLeagues in 2021. Stay tuned for updates!Calling for a Special Meeting to Revoke the Tax and Remove Directors
It is clear that certain directors of the Board are violating their fiduciary duty by acting in their own interest and abusing a not-for-profit organization to generate revenue for their own clubs. Section C of USTA NorCal’s bylaws states that 15% of member organizations can call for a Special Meeting of the Organization Members to remove the tax and Section K states that such a meeting also has the power to remove directors from the office. Please reach out to your organization’s head of tennis or tennis pro and ask them to compete this form if they support a Special Meeting for one or both of the matters above.
This form is for authorized representatives of USTA Member Organizations only. There is no need for you to fill out this form. Any invalid submission will be removed.
It seems like Nor Cal is a franchise of USTA? What is the position of USTA on creating another group/division? I notice the fees in other areas around the country vary wildly so I can only guess what financial requirements to the central USTA are. Certainly worth a go.
