The Moment of Truth

Tonight could be described as the moment of truth. The juncture between right and wrong. The zero hour. Or the point of no return.

At this very moment, the Board of Directors (BoD) is holding their first meeting since the #SaveNorCalLeagues movement started; since over 5,200 League players signed the petition demanding the immediate revocation of the so-called "Facility Use Fee;" since we, the League players, have sent hundreds, if not thousands of emails to the Board Directors, demanding the tax to be revoked and expressing our concern and outrage over the blatant abuse of power by the BoD.

We have made our voices heard, loud and clear.

So tonight is the night when the BoD has the chance to come to their senses and do what's right. Right the wrong. And revoke the fee.

Will it happen? Will this nightmare be coming to an end? Who knows, but one thing seems clear: The tax must be on tonight's agenda because even though the public portion of the BoD meetings are – as the name suggests – open to the public, the BoD seems to be taking full advantage of the shelter-in-place orders and the fact that the meeting has to be held virtually, by denying the public's request to call in to the meeting and bear witness to what is unfolding in the virtual board room.

The BoD missed many chances to respond to us players. And they missed their chance to show transparency at the BoD meeting tonight. Let's hope they don't miss their chance to act with their fiduciary duty tonight and revoke the tax.

  1. Thank you TC4FE! And what does national USTA say about what's happened here at USTA Norcal? Are they condoning this action by the USTANorcal BoD? The USTA Magazine should be writing about this, or is it too controversial for print? I, for one, along with many of.my longtime USTA member friends, will boycott league tennis and not renew membership if USTANorcal does not revoke this ridiculous and biased facility fee.

  2. We won! They rescinded the fee at last night's Board meeting per an email sent out from USTA NorCal. Next step: continue the fight to recall/remove those directors who voted for the increase!
