Mission: Accomplished! - BoD Revokes the Tax

#SaveNorCalLeagues is beyond excited to announce that last night, the BoD voted to revoke the "Facility Use Fee." Thank you, League players for all your support in this effort to fight for the League program and for what's right.

Last night, the BoD met for the first time since the #SaveNorCalLeagues movement started, and the below email from USTA NorCal just announced: We won the fight! We made our voices heard!

The BoD revoked the fee!

This was truly a team effort of all players and organizations across Northern California. Thank you very much for your overwhelming support for the #SaveNorCalLeagues movement, the over 5,200 signatures on the petition, the hundreds or thousands of emails you all sent to the BoD members and the unmatched effort of the various groups of players and captains across Northern California who all joined us in our cause.

We showed the BoD that we League players stick together to protect the League program we love so much and that we will not just sit back and watch how a small group of private club representatives abuses their power on the Board to enrich themselves.

We reached a big milestone last night by getting the BoD to revoke the fee. But #SaveNorCalLeagues mission does not stop here: We have to make sure such an outrageous decision never happens again and that all BoD members act with the fiduciary duty they have towards USTA NorCal – now and in the future.

Thank you everyone for your continued support! We achieved this as a team!

Yours truly,
#SaveNorCalLeagues

Letter from USTA NorCal, presumable sent to all League players:

Important Communication Regarding Adult Leagues

We are pleased to announce that the USTA Northern California Board of Directors recently met and revisited the Facility Use Fee passed back in December. Based on the feedback provided by our players, staff and facilities, the Directors formally voted to rescind the 2020 Facility Use Fee.

We want to thank all USTA NorCal members for your passion and patience over the last few months and while all of our lifestyles have been greatly impacted by the Shelter in Place orders, we hope to continue growing the sport of tennis, while providing a positive and fun environment.

Over the next few days, USTA NorCal will be sending additional information outlining safety protocols and procedures in order to ensure a safe return to the game we all love. Below you will find an updated Adult League Schedule for the 2020 interrupted leagues. More details on league play regarding schedules, playoffs and championships for the 2020 and 2021 seasons will be provided in the coming weeks.

Again, thank you for your feedback, patience and especially your support for the game of tennis. We hope to see you back on the courts soon!

  2. Yes! We need to continue to insist the NorCal BoD be transparent: inform and gather feedback from members on potential controversial issues that affect membership BEFORE implementing; publish the annual budget (at the very least, have it accessible on the NorCal website.)

  3. I'd like to thank the virus for affecting this decision. Don't forget to follow proto out on the courts!
